ISD ORGANISES 30th ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET

A magnificent sports extravaganza was organized to mark the 30th Annual Athletic Meet of Indian School Darsait on 27th October 2022 at ROP Stadium, Wattayah with great gusto, ardour, sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of H.E. Dr. Said bin Salim bin Mohammed Al Wahaibi, Member of Majlis A’Shura, Wilayat Muttrah as the Chief Guest and Dr. Mansoor bin Sultan Al-Touqi, Advisor at Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Head of Oman Paralympic Committee as the Guest of Honour. The event commenced with the Royal Anthem of Oman and National Anthem of India. Bhavika Biju, Head Girl extended a cordial welcome to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. It was followed by a parade of students who marched in accompaniment of the School Band. During the inaugural ceremony the Hon’ble Chief Guest received the salute of honour from the March-past contingents of the four houses namely, Bapu, CV Raman, Tagore and Vivekananda exemplifying agility of movement, timing and coordination. The Lighting of the Torch performed by the athletes of the school accompanied by the students on hover boards captivated the attention of the spectators. It was followed by an oath administered by John Adams Kurian, the Sports Captain reiterating the commitment to ensure fair play and sportsmanship throughout the meet.

The Chief Guest declared the Athletic Meet open. Other prominent dignitaries who graced the occasion included Mr. Rabeea Rashid Al- Busaidi, Mr. Khalid Salim Mohammed Al-Wahaibi, Mr. Younes Sakhi al Balushi. The event also witnessed the presence of Mr. Sirajuddin Nhelat, Director In-charge, members of School Management Committee, parents, students and well-wishers.

Among the highlights, was a drill presentation by the Primary Section which splashed joy and radiance (Colours of Unity), and an amalgam of Mass Drill by the students of classes VI- VIII that displayed spectacular synchronization of Lezium exercises accompanied by skaters in the formation of ‘ISD @ 30’.

Apart from constantly cheering for the students, parents also took part in the event especially organized for them. Irrespective of their age, parents sprinted on the track leaving everyone in awe. The spirit of the day reached its peak with the Inter School Invitation Relay (4×100 m) in which five Indian Schools competed. Indian School Muscat notched the first position whereas Indian School Al Ghubra bagged the second position followed by Indian School Darsait at the third position.

Bapu House lifted the Championship Trophy while Vivekananda House clinched the Runner-up Trophy. Furthermore, the prestigious March-past Trophy was grabbed by Bapu House while Vivekananda House mustered the second place. Trophies and Certificates were awarded to the winners by the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, esteemed members of SMC and the Principal.

The 30th Annual Athletic Meet was declared closed by Dr. Kurian Abraham, Treasurer and Head Sports Subcommittee of School Management Committee. The event concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Maganda Dinesh, Head Boy. The School Management Committee and the Principal congratulated all students, especially the winners on their tremendous effort for giving their best and displaying true sportsmanship.
